MENTAL-EMOTIONAL ISSUES

mental_01 In truth, all the problems we have are created by our mind, whether they show up as physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. The mind is the creator of all our experiences. When we go beyond the mind, such as in meditation, there is no experience left; there is just silence, peace.

It is the nature of the mind to constantly think, and the result of these thoughts are emotions. Thus, whenever we feel bad, we can know that we must have thought something unpleasant, either unconsciously or consciously. In other words: Thought (or belief) is the cause of emotion. Whatever we feel regarding others is based not on them, but on what we think about them, on what we believe they do or say. And we interpret what we see 'out there' according to our unconscious beliefs.

Example of a mental-emotional issue:

A client had a pattern of gambling and loosing large sums of money, whenever she earned a lot. We discovered that she felt guilty when she received lots of money, and wanted to punish herself (unconsciously) for receiving so much. Through clearing we discovered a memory as a nine year old girl, when a girlfriend stole a necklace she had received from a boy. She had created the belief that she deserved to be punished when she received something, and that's what she did by gambling her money away. 'The minute I get what I want, I need to get rid of it', she said.

Once we eliminated this self-sabotaging, she could then keep the money she earned without loosing it with gambling.

Individuals who have an addiction to a drug, for instance, and choose to stop using this drug without healing underlying unconscious issues, will simply switch their addiction to another substance, often alcohol. Individuals who stop drinking alcohol may start eating lots of sugar, smoke more cigarettes, start smoking pot or start overworking. We cannot change behaviors for good without changing the beliefs which created them.
